En ocasiones, como lector me detuve en seco porque lo que comenzó como broma en realidad revela un lado más oscuro de la narrativa. I was so scared, I half wanted to piss myself, but the difference between the strong and the weak isn’t that the strong don’t piss themselves. I gotta mention one thing that I may have not been fair with, in one of my reading updates, I mentioned some info dumping at the beginning. Buehlman’s world-building is quite intricate, and it took me a while to get a handle on the social set-up, background and geopolitics. The Blacktongue Thief is told through Kinch’s first-person perspective, and Buehlman did an excellent job in giving him a high level of distinctive voice that reminded me of what Peter McLean did with his War for the Rose Throne quartet.

Audiobook production: I was about halfway through the book, thinking the narrator was doing a great job digging into the nuances of the dialogue and delivering everything in a very conversational manner, before realizing that it was being read by the author himself O_o! I had more than half what I needed for my Lammas payment to the Guild to keep them from making my tattoo worse. In fact, I often failed and laughed my butt off, much to the concern and chagrin of my family and/or coworkers who were around at the time. He’s just such a lovable main character; snarky, sarcastic, continuously smile in the face of adversity.

Those statues will be carved from ash or hickory, with generous breasts on the goddesses and unthreatening pillicocks on the gods, except Haros, who will be hung like the stag he is, because everyone knows he screws the moon so hard she has to sink beneath the hills and rest from it. Christopher Buehlman is most often known for Between Two Fires and more horror novels; this is about to change very quickly.

They are repeatedly stabbing someone in the chest, pulling out a dagger and hoping to slit the next guy's throat before being noticed. I knew I’d find a game at the Bee and Coin because a Bee and a Coin were two of the cards in the Towers deck, besides the Towers, the Kings and Queens, Soldiers, Shovels, Archers, Death, the Traitor, and, of course, Thieves, signified in common decks by an illustration of a grasping hand. The ending sequence was pulse-pounding, and the conclusion + the acknowledgment was satisfying to read.
