About this deal

Using a stirrer and disposable paper plate, mix just enough wood filler for the hole size according to the directions of the manufacturer.

You mix it like dough and mold it like clay even after it dries. When it hardens, you can carve it just like any wood. For larger holes locate the joists either side of the hole in the ceiling and mark the middle with a straight pencil line and create a rectangle around the hole. Cut out and add two noggins to bridge the gap between the joists. Hands-On Expertise & Collective Knowledge: Our team boasts extensive DIY experience and in-depth knowledge. If you’re confused over which filler is right for your job why not take a look at our video to help you. Regular Updates: Our recommendations stay current with any changes in product performance or availability. If you’re filling smaller spaces or just don’t want the potential mess of powder, ready-mixed paste is the best solution. It’s practical and can be reused – just make sure you seal it tightly after use. However, paste is more expensive than powder and will already be pre-mixed in precise ratios to a particular consistency. Wood fillers – These are generally formulated with wood fibres to help make them suitable for wood repairs. Yes you can use decorators' caulk to fill small holes such as nail and screw holes, but it's not really suitable for holes any bigger than quarter of an inch. Add a dollop of caulk and smooth out with a putty knife or a wet finger for nail and screw holes. Masonry repair fillers – These are designed for outdoor use and have high mechanical strength, as well as coping well with the elements. Industry Connections: We maintain close ties with manufacturers and brands, offering insights into trends and upcoming products.

Cut a piece of plasterboard that is slightly narrower than the hole but an inch or so longer top and bottom. Screw in a long screw in the middle of the patch; this will be used to position the patch in place. Measure and cut a new piece of plasterboard to fill the hole. Fix in place with plasterboard screws or nails. Mix up plaster, apply and leave to dry.Inspect the wood and see if there are imperfections or if the paint doesn’t look finished. Apply a third coat if necessary. For deeper repairs, above 50mm, build the filler up in layers ensuring it has dried between applications.

Once filled, smooth the filler out by moving the knife over in different directions, starting from the centre of the filled area. Repeat until you have a smooth surface. Independent: We will tell you exactly what we think of a product and we would never recommend anything we wouldn't use ourselves. Spread a small blob over the hole and wait for it to dry. Once dry, get a 180-220 grit sandpaper and rub down until smooth and blended with the current surface. How do You Fix a Hole in Plasterboard on the Ceiling? No matter whether you want to repair small nail holes or want to fix some large gaps in the wood, it still works fine. By combining equal parts sawdust and white wood glue, it forms a paste that can be used to fill holes.A high-quality wood primer needs to be applied so that the paint would adhere to the surface of the wood you’re painting. The first thing to do is to cut out a rectangle around the hole using a steel rule and a Stanley knife. Alternatively, mark out with a pencil and ruler and cut out with a jab saw. Previously painted wood - If your old paint is in good condition just give it a light sand with 240grit sandpaper. Then, to help your paint last longer, put on one of our Primer & Undercoats. For good measure, leave the paint to dry overnight so you’re guaranteed that it is completely dry before applying the second coat. Now you will need a piece of plasterboard to fill the hole. Ideally this needs to be thinner than the current plasterboard. Measure and cut to fill the hole. Fix in place against the noggins with plasterboard screws or nails.
