White light flashing? If the light on the bottom of your Spotlight Cam is flashing after setup, it’s updating its internal software. The light will stop flashing when the update is completed. This update can take up to a few minutes. In my case, the Spotlight Cam Pro is facing an area with an outdated satellite image that’s full of trees that no longer exist. The end result is a map of a person walking atop trees, leaving me to guess, for instance, which side of the fence the motion is on if I’m going strictly off of the dots that show up on the image. On the whole, the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro Battery proved problem-free in terms of monitoring and alerts once it was set up, although keeping it “talking” to our Wi-Fi was an issue. Another new feature compared to older battery-operated Ring Cams is Pre-Roll, something more usually found on hard wired surveillance devices where power saving is not required in the same way. This shows a few seconds of activity that occurred before a motion alert is triggered, a feat achieved by retrieving the stop motion type images the cam captures continuously. It allows you to see a bit more of a person’s approach to the camera and could come in useful on those occasions where the PIR sensor triggers the camera a bit too late to capture useful footage. DO NOT INSTALL if a working earth connection is not available. Operationally I felt there were a couple of shortcomings as well. First, the siren is plenty loud but it can only be activated manually, not automatically by motion detection as a conventional burglar alarm would.
