About this deal

You also get just the right number of compartments to conveniently organise your gear without making it overcomplicated.

The Osprey Aura 50 is available in X-small, Small, and Medium versions with a capacity of 44, 47, and 50 litres respectively. However, it can be a little confusing when you have to choose between the Aura 50 and the 65. Hopefully, the review above provides you with all the information you need to make a well-thought-out decision! All the best! It isn't just the lightweight, ventilated comfort and support that we love about the Aura AG 50, we also love the attention to detail and the huge number of clever, useful and unique, features. So, let’s start up at the top and work our way down. The 100DX630D nylon dobby fabric used on both bags is not waterproof, so you can’t use them in extremely wet weather. However, the fabric is water-resistant and does a great job of keeping the bag dry in case of light showers and splashes. The Aura 50 Extra Small is the most compact version in the range with a capacity of 44 liters and a weight of about 4 pounds. It also measures 28.35 x 14.17 x 14.17” in size. This is what brings about the difference in capacity. Nevertheless, both Osprey 50 and 65 allow you to select a customisable fit by splitting the size of the bags into Small, Extra Small, and Medium sizes. This means you can find a size that perfectly conforms to your body size and shape. Despite its impressive features and performance, the Osprey Aura 50 remains lightweight and compact. It weighs just under 4 pounds and has a capacity of 50 liters, making it an ideal choice for both short and long-distance trips. Side tension straps are linked to the hipbelt. By tightening these straps you can stabilise the load but reduce the hipbelt flexibility. Where balance is critical tightening them can help you feel more secure. However, if you are striding out over easy terrain it’s better to loosen these straps to allow full hip flexibility. As a non-hiker, there are a lot of spare straps flapping around that I never found a real use for, but they can easily be tied up and put out of sight’s way. Shape-wise, it’s not too wide, and not too long either. The Osprey Aura 50L is just really nicely designed.

Minimalism really does work best when you’re travelling long-term. There’s a huge amount of satisfaction that comes from being able to fit everything you own into one bag, and honestly one of the biggest adjustments when returning home was being surrounded by so much STUFF. The design and construction of the Aura 50 are exceptional. With its lightweight yet durable materials, reinforced stitching, and attention to detail, it can withstand the rigors of outdoor activities and last for years to come. The sleek and streamlined design ensures a comfortable fit, while the gender-specific models cater to the unique needs of both men and women. It may also come in handy when you have to board a plane since its compact size may be allowed inside. One thing I’ll say about the hip straps though is that being so stiff it can be a difficult task just to pull them out from behind you to get them round your waist. Sometimes I didn’t feel strong enough and just gave up (I’m a petty wiener like that).

The Aura 50 features an adjustable harness and hip belt, allowing you to customize the fit to your body shape and size. The harness is equipped with padded shoulder straps that offer excellent cushioning and support, reducing pressure points on your shoulders. The hip belt, with its generous padding, helps to transfer the weight from your shoulders to your hips, ensuring a more balanced and comfortable load carry.

Compared to the Osprey Aura AG 65, the brand claims that the light version doesn’t “compromise on comfort.” Skycie put this to the test, and unfortunately, her experience differed. Another difference comes in the sizes of the bag. When placed side by side, you’ll notice that the Aura 50 is considerably slimmer and more compact than the Aura 65. Its size might just be within the allowed limit to board a plane and it will be a nice option if you want something more rugged and comfortable for the trip. The main shortcoming to using the Aura 50 for traveling is that it only has one access to the main compartment, which is also located at the top.
