About this deal

Comment by LionsMikeI entered Spires of Arak through the hero call board quest shortly after hittinglevel 96 Kell still remains one of my favourite characters, but in this one, Alucard is also someone to look forward to meeting. I found him a quite interesting character. Kell serves the Maresh Empire—Red London, as he calls it—as an official ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons. After one such visit goes awry, Kell escapes his home for Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they'll first need to stay alive. After the waves have been defeated, Reshad and Percy will exit the hut and Reshad will give you The Saga of Terokk. It felt like the book was more focused on fulfilling Lilah's every whim rather than a realistic progression of the plot and development of the characters.

Fun fact: PRINCE AT LARGE was originally going to be a short story. I couldnt get over the idea of following an eager Rhy and reluctant Kell through a night on the town. Then, as I began to lay out GATHERING, I realized it would serve as a perfect reintroduction to the newly bound brothers." we also get a better, more focused view of the politics of red london this time around. in the first book, we were bouncing around between the various londons and learning about their relationships with each other, but here we get a more detailed look at red london - its history and the rivalries between the different cultures and lan There was a new restlessness to his motions, a taut energy that mirrored Kell's. And yet, Rhy's was different. Manic. Dangerous. His moods were darker and their turn sharper, cutting the span of a second." But Lila had only smiled. She'd said something very similar once, to Kell. Before she knew he was a royal. And a thief, for that matter."As always, Schwab’s books – even when they are in a series – have the same theme and characters, but they have different vibes. And this is something a love about her works. Rhy is the same stereotype I've seen over and over again. The moody, ungrateful, WiTtY prince who doesn't want to have responsibility and just wants to party. How funny. How creative. *yawns* He's so done with being rich and powerful and whatnot. How boring, am I right? He wants to be a RoGuE. By the flare’s sputtering glow, Lila could make out the ship’s name, streaked in shimmering paint along the hull. Is Ranes Gast. This is how fantasy should be done.” — Publishers Weekly, starred review, on A Gathering of Shadows

So high hopes were involved for A Gathering of Shadows. Already from this sample I know it's going to be up to the standards of the first book. When the full length book is released hopefully we'll find that it exceeds its predecessor. We are thrilled to reveal our editions for the rest of Shades of Magic series by V.E. Schwab, matching the edition of A Darker Shade of Magic from our Illumicrate Collections box" Rich details illuminate every dimension of an extravagant city flooded with magic, and intriguing personalities evolve into complex characters...between [the characters those] the vivid setting, and the climactic cliffhanger, Schwab already has us anticipating the rest of the series."-- Entertainment Weekly, Grade A on A Gathering of Shadows
